Attendees at the 2013 CFA Community Engagement & Fire Awareness Forum in Bendigo in early August forum were treated to a fascinating insight into the production of our humourous video prompting locals to think seriously about their fire plan.
The ‘Do you have a fire plan?‘ video (which uses a light-hearted approach to parody half-baked bushfire plans while featuring a serious closing message from CFA Captain Greg Kennedy) was new to many members, who were delighted to discover a great resource to take back to their own local communities.
During the presentation, Greg and project manager Jodi Clark encouraged other brigades or groups to get in touch to discuss how the concept could translate to other areas of Victoria.
“There’s no reason we couldn’t have ‘Be Ready Warracknabeal’ or ‘Be Ready Warrnambool’,” said Greg.
Many CFA members that attended the forum nominated the Be Ready Warrandyte session as a top 3 highlight and the video received many positive comments on the real time SMS feed during the Sunday morning plenary session.
‘Do you have a fire plan?‘ has gone viral, receiving over 6,000 views and attracting social media interest. With strong support from Victorian emergency services agencies, the video is now being shown around regional NSW at the Rural Fire Service Community Engagement forums.
“Attending the forum and presenting to representatives from over 160 CFA brigades made me feel like our work can really make a difference and help communities across the state” said Be Ready Warrandyte Project Manager, Jodi Clark.
