Be Ready Warrandyte began in July 2012 as a direct result of the calamitous 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. Its aim was to ensure that every household in the ‘Greater Warrandyte’ area has an effective bushfire plan and to increase fire preparedness.
Greg Kennedy, South Warrandyte Fire Captain, was quoted in the Warrandyte Diary May 2015 saying:
“Be Ready Warrandyte has been monumentally successful. When BRW started, community preparedness around bushfire safety was very low but Warrandyte is a community that will take on issues and is prepared to listen. I think this campaign has had a big impact locally.”
